NSS New Product! Lucite Invitations

One of the great and wonderful things that I’ve been wanting to do for awhile is produce Lucite Wedding Invitations. They are so elegantly modern and super unique.

This year, at the National Stationery Show, I finally found a manufacturer that can take my designs and put them on Lucite. (I’ve found invite companies in the past, just never any that would produce my custom designs)

I am anxiously awaiting my Lucite kit so I can show all the color samples to my friends, family member, clients…and strangers walking down the street…yes I am that excited about them.

Since I have yet to actually design a Lucite Invite (I love the way that rhymes, yes I am that big of a dork) here is a photo of a stunning lucite invite I found at EllyB Events’ Blog

They were designed by Lela New York

Love them!

Father's Day: Less than a month away!

Ok, sorry it has been so long since my last post! I had a whirlwind past two weeks from my NYC trip, the National Stationery Show, and then jet-setting it to Des Moines, IA for a wedding reception of a very good friend of mine.
I have a full re-cap of the National Stationery Show that I intend to post ASAP.
In the meantime, I thought I would post a few fun father’s day finds. (Some are a bit more adult that the others)

NYC – Day 1

Well my good friend (and event planner extraordinaire), Mindell, and I flew to NYC yesterday and we are having a blast! (After we got over the whole getting up at 4 AM to catch a 7AM flight…not so much fun).

The National Stationery Show doesn’t start until Sunday so we decided to start the weekend early with some shopping!

After arriving at our hotel and learning we were upgraded to a suite (Yippy!), we hit the town. I bought this lovely dress from Anthropologie. Yes, you see correct there are kittens on the dress…I’ve named two, fluffy and…well…shoot…I can’t remember the other, I had a few cocktails last night. Ha!

So obviously we had a good time in the evening. After we changed into our new dresses, we went out to 230 Fifth, a Rooftop Lounge, and the over to 20th & Park to a little French restaurant. Everything was delicious!

Today is looking absolutely beautiful! The day should be filled with all kinds of lovely adventures and my sister came down from Boston to share them with us as well!

I’ll be keeping you posted….and I promise to take photos to share as well!

Simple Elegance with a Just Bit of Flair

I enjoyed putting this lovely invitation together. It is a great example of a very elegant and simple design that has just a bit of personality added by some patterned paper, a beautiful typeface and a whimsical wedding timeline.

Learning Cursive...

Just recently I’ve become OBSESSED with calligraphy…mostly because I have horrendous handwriting and if it were not for the lovely typography designers, I would not have a business!

But as much as there are some truly beautiful typefaces out there, one cannot feel the same care and dedication that an ornate (either traditional or modern) hand calligraphed envelope can posses.

There are some pretty fabulous calligraphers in this world that have really taken calligraphy into the modern world. Here are some of my favorites.

Emilie Friday

Laura Hooper Calligraphy

Paper Finger

Queen Quills

Each one of these images inspires me to try to learn the art of the pen...alas, try as I might...I just don't think that I was meant to have legible writing. So I will give credit where credit is due and leave it to the professionals!

Mr. Boddington

I've had a crush on Mr. Boddington for a few years now and I am really looking forward to visiting his booth at the national stationery show in about a week and a half! (I must admit that this crush started solely on loving his stuffy name!)

The designers are Mr. Boddington's Studio are so talented and just add so much whimsy to their designs, I love looking at their creative interpretations of stationery. Their designs really set this studio apart from the rest!

And here are their favorite picks of all the save the dates they created over the past year:

The Good the Bad and the Pretty

Oh what a way to end the month (and start afresh!)

Well first off I must apologize for the minimal posts these past couple weeks, I’ve been a bit hectic with the good, the bad…and the pretty!

(the bad) On Tuesday April 20th, I lost the hard drive that housed ALL my design work form the past 7 years. UGH…it was a bad day.

(the good) Thanks to some magical data recovery center far far away, I found out this Friday that they were able to recover my data and I should be getting it back this week, yippy!

(The good) the very expensive lesson I learned….back up your data once a week and not just to one source

(the bad…or the good…not sure yet) I also turned 30 years old on April 28th.

(the pretty) April 29th was the third annual fundraiser for the Greater Omaha Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives, an organization that is filled with amazingly talented individuals from all walks of the event industry. This year’s theme was Forks in Paradise and consisted of a tablescape and chef challenge.

The tables this year were pretty amazing, beautiful and even witty! Here are some pics:

White Table
this table was designed by myself and a good friend/event planner Mindell.
We had an absolute blast shopping and designing this table.

The Winner
designed by Catering Creations

One of my Favorites!
designed by United Rent-All and D-Tales

An Animated Table
designed by the Hilton Omaha...the centerpiece was a projected aquarium...

Beach Bums - gotta love the chairs with bikini's on them!

And the People's Choice Winner
designed by Florals Etcetera

Of course I did some programs for the event as well, this is the first time I've created a matchbook style program and I quite like the way it turned out.

(the good) The fundraiser Thursday night was a blast, Friday night I got to attend the Berkshire Hathaway Borsheims Reception and pick out my birthday present (don’t you just LOVE it!)

and then last night was the big 3-0 bash. Wow, I am exhausted, but super excited to get back into my daily routine of designs, blogging and the rest of my life! Happy Sunday everyone!
